*Raleigh's* booming *Red Hat* staffs up. Adding 600-800 new people this year

Open-source software developer, Red Hat, hired about 1,000 workers in 2012, and will need to add 600-800 more this year. The Raleigh-based company is looking primarily for top engineering talent with open-source development know-how.

Red Hat is the only open-source software maker to earn $1 billion a year in revenues.

Open-source software is written by a community of people and creates a culture where leaders emerge because of their skill, not their position.

Turnover at the company is about 1.5%; industry average is 5%. According to company officials, the reason for the stable workforce is, “We built our culture to match open source’s [culture].”
