Levine Foundation commits $25 million for cancer center expansion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Leon Levine Foundation has committed an additional $25 million to expand cancer care at Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte Business Journal reported.

That donation includes $20 million for infrastructure improvements at the Levine Cancer Institute and an additional $5 million in endowment challenge funding.

Local philanthropists Leon and Sandra Levine are behind that charitable organization.

In 2010, it committed $20 million to help establish the Levine Cancer Institute.

This donation comes less than a month after Carolinas HealthCare announced plans to invest an additional $150 million into cancer care in the Charlotte region.

That project is expected to start early next year.
